American Family Insurance group companies announce raise in minimum pay to $23 per hour

American Family Insurance announced today it is raising its minimum hourly wage to $23 per hour – its second increase in two years. The move impacts the group’s enterprise of companies, including Main Street America Insurance.

The wage increase, intended to draw and retain talent to serve its customers, will take effect in July. More than 2,000 employees at American Family group companies will receive raises. The $23 per hour minimum-wage increase will impact employees in a variety of roles, including customer-facing positions in call centers, claims and other areas. The companies include:

  • Main Street America Insurance, based in Jacksonville, Florida
  • American Family Insurance, based in Madison, Wisconsin
  • Homesite Group, Boston
  • The General, Nashville, Tennessee
  • CONNECT powered by American Family Insurance, DePere, Wisconsin
  • An employee- and customer-centric move

“American Family strives to be an employer of choice, and compensation is one way to achieve that by remaining competitive in a tight job market,” said Tracy Schweitzer, American Family chief people officer. “This increase recognizes the importance of having top talent to provide exceptional service to our customers, while helping employees develop successful careers.” Main Street America Insurance partners with independent agents to provide affordable insurance to individuals, families, and businesses. The company merged with American Family in 2018.

“When we merged with American Family, we did so with great confidence and excitement, knowing the partnership would provide expanded capabilities, resources and benefits to independent agents, policy holders and employees. This announcement is reflective of that promise and our commitment to those we serve,” said Main Street America Insurance President and CEO, Chris Listau.

Employees receive comprehensive benefits package

American Family Insurance group companies prioritize employee wellbeing and recognize its positive connection to engagement and productivity. The comprehensive and competitive benefits package provides employees with choice, including health insurance, retirement benefits, student loan repayment assistance, flexible work arrangements and training and development opportunities. They also offer generous paid time-off and paid-leave programs such as parental, caregiver and volunteer time. Since the beginning of the pandemic, American Family Insurance group companies have evolved their benefits to meet the needs of employees and their families, offering additional flexibility in work schedules, when possible, extra “thank you” days off to recharge, expansion of the employee assistance program to include free counseling sessions and a new physical and mental wellness platform, and increased support and resources for working parents and caregivers. In addition, COVID stipends were provided to help cover pandemic costs (such as setting up workspaces at home).
